Drug Bust Leads to 20 Arrests in Florida

According to Brevard County Sheriff’s agents, Operation Heat Wave netted 20 people who were taken into custody. A release indicated that the operation targeted drugs. Those apprehended face drug charges, including cannabis trafficking, sale and possession of hydromorphone as well as firearms possession by a convicted felon.

According to a law enforcement official, mid-level and street-level drug dealers were scrutinized during a two-month period. Agents obtained arrest warrants as well as search warrants for two residences. During the search, officials found 25 grams of crack cocaine in one of the homes and 850 grams of cannabis at the other.

The suspects ranged from ages 18 to 59. Although most of the arrests involved the sale of cannabis, hydromorphone and cocaine, two individuals were charged with the sale and possession of Dilaudid, which is a controlled substance. Those taken into custody hail from Merritt Island, Rockledge and other places in the central Florida area.

Those who face drug possession or trafficking charges in Florida may be subjected to severe penalties, including hefty fines and possible jail time. Charges may vary according to the type and amount of drug as well as other factors. Those facing felony or misdemeanor charges that are related to drugs, and who wish to understand how they can protect their rights, may benefit from contacting a lawyer. A skilled criminal defense attorney may be able to explain the law as well as offer options regarding how to proceed. A lawyer may be able to review all aspects of the case and present the findings to the prosecution in order to attempt to negotiate as favorable an outcome as possible.
